Continuous EEG in an ICU generates days of recording that no one can read in full. Automated detection is not an accuracy improvement over an expert electroencephalographer. It is the only way the data gets looked at at all, which is a different and more honest justification.

Limitations Worth Knowing
False positive rates in artifact-heavy ICU recordings are high, and detection algorithms remain adjuncts requiring expert confirmation. Sensitivity varies substantially by seizure type, and subtle electrographic seizures are the hardest and most clinically important class.
