Digital Pathology
The practice of reading pathology on digitized slides rather than through a microscope, and the platform on which pathology AI runs.
Digital pathology covers slide scanning, image management, remote reading, and computational analysis. Adoption has been slower than radiology's because the scanning step is expensive, storage requirements are large, and the workflow benefit without AI is modest.
Where This Gets Misread
The economics are the barrier, not the technology. Digitizing pathology costs real money and, on its own, mostly reproduces what a microscope already did. The investment case depends heavily on what the AI layer adds, which makes it a harder sell than PACS was.
