HL7
Also called: Health Level Seven
The standards organization and its long-established messaging formats for exchanging clinical data between systems.
HL7 v2 messaging remains widely deployed for admissions, orders, and results, and is still the backbone of much hospital integration. HL7 also publishes FHIR, its modern API-based successor.
Where This Gets Misread
HL7 v2's flexibility means implementations vary considerably between institutions, and a working interface at one hospital may need substantial rework at the next. Integration cost in clinical AI deployment is dominated by this, not by the model.
